Here's the night parade in Liestal (near Basel). Life size lamppost scare crows were about 3 meters up on all the lampposts--different one on each post.
We missed the day parade but apparently there was a lot more confetti than in Bern, good thing there was no rain.
They also threw candy (like Bern) and oranges (never heard of that) but we wouldn't let Nate eat the candy he found.
Another band:
Most of the bands were piccolo bands (you would have loved it Erin) and then the fire parade. Men and women carried these burning bundles on their backs all through town. We were right at the edge and it was HOT when they passed, can't imagine it on your back.
Some were luckier and could just pull the burning cart. Part of the route was through the city gate that was lower than the fire so the firemen/woman on both sides kept it soaked so it didn't catch fire--they do this every year and the gate was still there.

We saw lots of people there with lots of Fasnacht pins. Each city sells their own pin so many go around collecting pins from each of the Fasnachts they attend. In Catholic cantons Fasnacht is celebrated before Ash Wednesday (last Wednesday) but the Protestant cantons (Bern and Basel, about 1/2 of the 26 cantons) celebrate after Ash Wednesday just to make it clear they are not Catholic.
