Chateau Chillon in Montreux

Nathan is amused with the hole in the wall for the exit of excrement :)

 We toured with the family of Dan's work buddy (Mike was out of town, Faith, Jack and Maggie).

Jack and Nate found the holes from the inside that led to the outside.  It would be nice to have a double seater for those times there just aren't enough.

 Ryan and Nate looking out the castle (it was used as a prison for almost 200 years, particularly for witches and demons).  

 Kent is enjoying the view from one of the towers.  It was a beautiful day with blue skies and pleasant temps.  Below is the family outside the Chillon Chateau.  Erin was playing with the boys' volleyball team in Basel for the day.

 At the Chateau du Cheval in La Sarraz (below) we learned about the first use of bedrooms, 3 different styles (all french), and why the beds were so short (they slept propped up, fearing that lying flat would make them sick, I learned this too, at Monticello).  The armor behind the boys only weighs 70 lbs, but they think they are strong enough to forego the armor.

La Sarraz, after the tour, the kids enjoyed the water fountain before the return drive.  In Bern you can drink from all the fountains (unless there is a sign) but we weren't ready to test the other fountains.  I'm guessing it's safe water, sort of like the bubbly fountains in Portland.
