Kandersteg Scout Camp

We headed up to Kandersteg for the first week of July for the Transatlantic Council annual camp with 270 scouts (only 5 in our troop with Dan and I as chaperones). Amazingly, we only had 24 hours of light rain and showers right in the middle (last year it rained all but the middle day). It was a lovely week with lots of adventure. Nate joined us for the first several days, then a friend in the troop came up with his mom to spend some time with the troop (he attends a local school and it was their last week) then Nate went home with them for 2 nights and then returned with Erin on July 4th and stayed until the last day. Erin stayed one night, she and I hiked both days she was there. (Kent didn't join us since he was in a basketball camp in Virginia that his grandparents drove him to (actually he drove two of the days with his new driver's permit) at all hours of the night and day (last practice on Friday went until 1 am) then testing on Saturday (97% on one of his finals :))

Flowers by the river that flows through camp. Our first night KISC (Kandersteg International Scout Centre) served dinner to the entire camp of 400 scouts. It was rather yummy!

While the scouts had merit badge classes, Dan, Nate and I went hiking to Allmealp.

We took the cable car up along the waterfall with beautiful views and then hiked 2 hours back down to camp. There are rock climbers climbing up the rock face by the waterfall. The cables and clips are all in place so it is a good beginner climb :)

I like that Nate captured the Buddhist monks in our picture. Not really where I would expect to see the monks but they have a gorgeous retreat lodge right next to the cable car (which they didn't take up).
