The Swiss celebrate their 1st the same as we celebrate our 4th. Erin's Pan Band (steel drums band) invited us to a BBQ and "last concert with Erin" at one of the family's summer cabin near Murten. We started with a swim in the canal between Lake Murten and Lake Neuchatel. It was much warmer than the Aare and we could swim the wake when the boats passed by.

Kent enjoyed the shrimp chips that the band leader made for the occasion. He and one of the other band members, Stephan, had a contest to see who could insert a chip in the mouth and then remove it in one piece :)
Stephan won !
Then we headed off for the first concert. Only half the band was present but they still sounded great!

We took another swim, the band played again, took another swim, then enjoyed a delicious BBQ. We returned home about 9 in time for the fire works show around town. The best was on the Gurten Hill with a perfect view from our balcony, which was especially nice since it started raining, lightening and thundering at the start of the show. Glad we were tucked into our house and didn't have to trek it back down the Gurten with all the crowds :)
Happy 4th of July, I mean 1st of August!!!
