Christmas Day

The kids were searching high and low for the pickle and had to finally resort to very specific clues--wouldn't "on the Christmas tree" be enough?  The pickle tradition was started in Oregon.  The pickle ornament is hidden Christmas Eve and must be found before gifts are open Christmas day to insure that the tree decorations are thoroughly enjoyed.

Cathryn made these pillow cases with stitching that glows all night--amazing!

After church, where we were treated with a harp solo (music of the angels), we enjoyed Christmas dinner with Ursula, her son, Laurence, and his girlfriend, Jutta (pronounced Utah).
Sunflower bread I made with my new mold.

We went up to the observatory to see the view on a very clear night.  Jutta is opening the door before we all went out for a brisk tour around the night sky.
We finished the evening by lighting the candles on the tree.  We sang a few carols.  Our hostess was rather surprised when the kids sang a few German carols in German that they had learned with their church group.  We had a wonderful day celebrating the birth of our Savior.
