Sweet Bees

Happy Fall with happy Fall colors.

Sad news this week--the bees all died.  Not sure why or how but our resident expert is investigating the matter.  Perhaps the queen died.  Perhaps she flew off.  There were bee carcasses under the hive (but not thousands).  Perhaps they died of a mite--early fall is when they are most susceptible.  But alas, they are gone.
But they left us with lots of honey--that was so sweet of them.

We've been straining and straining with little effort.
Just a few of the jars full of the work of thousands of bees.  The jar on the far right which is lighter in color was harvested from the last honeycomb.  Sure would like to know what they were feeding on earlier in the year.
More jars still to fill and more honeycomb to remove from the hive.  Truly amazing that this came from our neighbors and our backyard flowers.  Thanks Ryan!!!
