So every year we make our stained-glass Christmas candies some time in December, and this year mom waited for me (Erin) to come home before we did them. (And as you can see, she's also making me write her blog :P )
The first flavor we did was Butter Rum, and here's Nathan with the bowl of that:
Here's all of our tools: the candy thermometer, flavors, coloring, ingredients.... and this year we only burnt one batch! It's always a bit stressful, because sometimes the temperature rises really quickly. And then it's always a race to get the candy cut and twisted once we pour it out on to the marble cupboard, because it starts to cool and harden incredibly fast!
While we waited for each batch of candy to rise to the right temperature, we played our new game, Carcassonne, which was an early Christmas present that we just opened, after finding it at the end of a scavenger hunt. It's a really fun game! We've probably played it 20 times this past week.
This is the Root Beer flavored candy, one of our favorite's. I don't know why Kent is making that face though...
Cutting up cinnamon! My number one favorite candy, and mom's too. It's VERY strong!
The final product! We love all the different colors. But this year.. we didn't have any candy flavor that was blue, so for our last flavor, mango, we all decided to turn it blue, just because we thought blue would look good with all the other colors. So now we have cinnamon, root beer, butter rum, spearmint, grape, and blue mango :)
