Wheat and Black Eyes

The boys helped me grind some wheat.

But they were not impressed with how long it takes to pick out the chaff so they started by blowing as they poured the wheat into another bowl.

So Nate ran up and found the fan--brilliant--now we had chaff all over the kitchen (but not in the grinder :)

Nate has started playing basketball and is as aggressive as the older boys so Wednesday after practice he brought home a nice "shiner" (he had never heard the word).  This was just hours after the hit (he and another boy both went for the same rebound and Nate got the worse end of the deal).  It was rather swollen but not so colorful.
The next morning it took a while to get the eye to actually open.
A few more colors Friday morning

but after Friday skiing he had much less swelling.
It's just all part of being a kid--right?  But he didn't think it was as colorful as his Grandpa Cragun's--better luck next time.
