Ryan and Dan went with their troop to the Klondike Derby in Kandersteg on Saturday. They didn't camp over but just joined the troops for the day of activities. Dan spent most of the day shoveling out the amphitheater for the evening campfire while the boys went from activity to activity dragging supplies on their sled. They just about broke the record for the fastest log pull. They had to tie a rope around a log and a water bottle, throw the water bottle over a high branch and then pull the log up to the branch. The group in front of them took over 15 minutes. As they watched, they formulated their plan and accomplished it in 1:15--not bad. In between stations they had time to build snow forts and have snow fights. They returned late, tired but happy.
Monday was a US holiday so after dropping the kids off at school Dan and I headed up into the mountains for a little snow hike. We left from Gummialp, hiked up a snow-covered path and eventually stopped for lunch at a cozy mountain cabin. It was locked up with a bit of rope but we sat under the first floor balcony to enjoy our lunch while it snowed all around us. The snow fell so quietly and calmly if seemed like we were inside a snow globe :)
