We dropped Kent off at the airport in SLC on Saturday morning (he flew to Virginia to spend a few weeks with his Brady Grandparents and Pierre-Paul from Morocco), then we drove to Mount Rushmore in time for the evening program (a definite serendipitous moment since we hadn't planned the timing).
After a discourse from the ranger and a 20 minute video about the accomplishments of the 4 presidents the mountain was lit up for our viewing. Before the lighting we just saw the Big Dipper pouring its contents out over the mountain. There are definitely more stars there than in Oregon:)
After our visit with Kevin and Cathryn and my parents in Wisconsin we drove to Yellowstone. Dan and Nathan are running to jump in the snow in the Beartooth Mountains.
After entering Yellowstone we were greeted by this cute buffalo walking down the road. He wasn't very fast but we just waited patiently (I'm sure you'll understand knowing that Dan was at the wheel:)
Our first stop was Tower Fall. We had crossed the Yellowstone River several times across Montana and now we really could enjoy it.
We stopped at many pots and geysers but we had to do the famous one--Old Faithful. And sure enough, she erupted within her schedule, she was a bit late but we waited patiently.
We did see a bear on our way up I-15 to Glacier National Park. He/she came charging across the road. It missed hitting us but so startled us we didn't get any pictures.
It was a bit overcast but the first half of the Road to the Sun in Glacier was dry.
It's hard to appreciate this creek with its narrow gorge but it was gorgeous!
